Preparing for clean install. Question on permissions on D;\ ??
I am preparing back up's etc for a clean install of Win 7 to a desktop computer, running Winxp on C: drive with backup data etc on another internal drive ( D: ) I am the only user on this computer and will remain so on the new install. I have read horror stories of users being locked out of there secondary drives after a Win 7 install. What do I need to do, if anything, with permissions, ownership etc on the D; drive before install. I missed Vista so this extra security is new to me. Thank you

Hi,Generally, if you perform the right steps and backup your data with administrator permissions, there wouldn't be any problem. However, if you can't access either of disk, you can perform the following steps to take ownership of this drive.Take ownership of the drive you are wishing to access: 1)Click Start > All Programs ->Accessories2)Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.3)Type: takeown /f filepath (Replace filepath with the location of your drive, example d:\)4)Press Enter, you will be prompted with completed successfully message.5)Type: icacls filepath /grant yourusername:f (Replace filepath with the location of your drive, and yourusername with your profile name)6)Press Enter, you will be prompted with completed successfully message.7)Then try to delete files in this drive and see if it works.
